DR. LAUREN LOKE C.Y.

Founder & Director, Human Being Sdn. Bhd.

PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Monash.

Study of Ocular Biomechanics: An Application to Glaucoma

BACKGROUND

With a PhD in Mechanical Engineering specializing in computational modeling and finite element analysis, Dr. Lauren Loke excels in computer-aided engineering design, tackling complex challenges in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural mechanics, and bio-mechanical systems. She has distinguished herself in a discipline where women remain significantly underrepresented.

DIVERSE EXPERIENCES

Her unconventional journey began in competitive gymnastics, training under Russian coaches to become a national athlete. This foundation of discipline and resilience propelled her through multiple career transformations: from R&D engineering to construction costing, from academia to pioneering entrepreneurship.

ASPIRATION

As co-founder of SEAZONE Innovative Sdn. Bhd., she commercialized Malaysia’s first no-water-change aquarium technology, earning the SME100 Award while expanding operations nationwide. This journey fueled her greater mission: combining engineering innovation with environmental sustainability.

Leveraging her engineering expertise and driven by a deep passion for green technologies and sustainability, Dr. Loke combines technical knowledge with environmental advocacy to develop innovative eco-solutions. She founded HUMAN Being Sdn. Bhd., assembling a strong engineering team capable of developing ESG-compliant solutions. Her vision includes self-sufficient Eco Homes—off-grid dwellings powered by solar energy, rainwater harvesting, biogas, and smart aquaponics. Though in its early stages, HUMAN aims to scale this model, promoting eco-conscious living. Beyond individual homes, Dr. Loke envisions Eco Villages as educational hubs and catalysts for corporate ESG collaboration, proving that collective action can drive meaningful environmental change.

A person’s strength is limited, but a group of people are of great power. Dr. Loke deeply believes that when unite, human can make in-depth impacts that truly address the environmental issues of today’s world.

DR. TAN D.Y.

Founder & Director, Human Being Sdn. Bhd.

PhD in Chemical Engineering, Monash.

Development of Dried Thermophilic Mixed Culture by Convective Air Drying for Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) Treatment

BACKGROUND

Dr. Tan exemplifies excellence across academia, athletics, and leadership. A top performer both in the classroom and on the field, he has consistently demonstrated outstanding capabilities throughout his academic journey. His early research in chemical engineering focused on anaerobic digestion, resulting in multiple publications. Notably, his groundbreaking work in microbial culture acclimatization for new habitats and feedstocks has significantly advanced wastewater treatment, microbiology identification, and biological preservation technologies.

SOLID INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCES

Transitioning into the solar industry with a chemical engineering background, Dr. Tan rapidly overcame initial gaps in electrical engineering by collaborating closely with consultants, suppliers, contractors, and TNB personnel. His dedication enabled him to master high-voltage systems (up to 132kV), perform hands-on instrumentation modifications, and troubleshoot complex electrical setups.

A key contributor to Malaysia’s solar energy expansion, Dr. Tan played a pivotal role in ensuring the timely Commercial Operation Date (COD) of multiple Large Scale Solar (LSS) projects through his work on Interconnection Facilities (IF). He later further widened his scope to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), commissioning one of Malaysia’s first TNB SCADA systems for indirect PV interconnection.

Dr. Tan has been at the forefront in extending our turnkey competency beyond retrofitting PV systems, towards various value-engineering in compliance with client and authority requirements. Among many, his contribution covers integration with various third party system including fire alarm, emergency shutdown, power factor regulation, and current limiter system. Additionally, he adopted his approach on TNB SCADA requirements for segregated PV areas by developing a wireless SCADA system. Moreover, he established the overall SOP of TNB SCADA to guide and improve project management through the complex workflow. Throughout his career, he has been heavily involved in commissioning countless rooftop projects and 13 LSS projects including a floating solar farm that achieved COD during the pandemic. Dr. Tan’s multidisciplinary expertise and problem-solving acumen continue to drive sustainable energy innovations in renewable sector.
